Full description
Meet your licensed local guide at the designated meeting point, Café Argana, in the heart of Marrakech. Before setting off, your guide will welcome you with a brief introduction to Morocco, its history and cultural heritage, and explain what you will discover during the tour.
From there, make your way into the historic heart of the Medina and continue towards Ben Youssef Madrasa, one of Marrakech's most impressive examples of traditional Moroccan architecture and Islamic art.
As you enter the madrasa, take time to appreciate the extraordinary craftsmanship that covers almost every part of the building. Your guide will point out the geometric zellij mosaics, finely carved cedarwood, detailed stucco decoration and Arabic inscriptions that give the monument its distinctive character.
Discover the story behind this former Islamic school and learn about its importance in Marrakech's history. Your guide will explain how the madrasa was connected to religious and intellectual life in the city, how students came here to study, and what daily life was like within its walls.
Continue through the different sections of the building, including the elegant central courtyard and the upper levels where small student rooms are arranged around the main space. See the contrast between the modest rooms where students lived and the richly decorated communal areas designed to impress and inspire.
Along the way, your guide will help you notice architectural details, symbols, inscriptions and decorative techniques that can easily be overlooked during a self-guided visit. You will also have time to ask questions, enjoy the atmosphere and take photographs of the madrasa's distinctive Moroccan design.
Choose Your Ticket Option
When booking, you can select between two options:
Option 1 – With Entry Ticket: Your admission ticket to Ben Youssef Madrasa is included in your booking, allowing you to visit the monument as part of the guided experience.
Option 2 – Without Entry Ticket: The admission ticket is not included in this option. If you choose this option, please bring enough cash in Moroccan dirhams (MAD) to purchase your entrance ticket at the site. Your guide will assist you with the process.
Upgrade Your Experience with a Visit to Bahia Palace
If you wish to make your experience even more complete, upgrade your tour to include a visit to the magnificent Bahia Palace. Explore its elegant courtyards, peaceful gardens, richly decorated rooms, colourful zellige tiles, carved cedarwood and intricate stucco work while your guide shares stories about the palace, its former residents and its role in Marrakech's history.
After exploring Ben Youssef Madrasa, conclude the experience with your guide and continue enjoying the atmosphere of Marrakech's historic Medina and its surrounding souks.
