Full description
You meet your licensed guide in the medina and walk to Al Attarine Madrasa, one of the finest examples of traditional Moroccan architecture in Fes, and learn about its place in the city’s history of learning. The route continues through the souks to the Al Qarawiyyin Mosque and University and the streets around it, then to the Chouara Tannery, where your guide explains each stage of traditional tanning.
The tour also shows the everyday medina: artisan workshops where crafts such as metalwork, leather, wood or weaving are still practised, an old hammam in the residential quarter, and a community bakery where neighbours bring bread to the shared oven. A Moroccan tea break gives you time to sit down before the last walk through the souks.
